Musicians
The Alexander Technique is taught in many leading
universities and conservatories such as Julliard and the
Royal College of Music in London. Musicians may suffer
chronic pain and repetitive stress injuries due to the
delicate precision and repetition required in their art.
Through the technique, musicians learn how to identify
chronic patterns of holding in order to release them:
learning to perform with increasing ease, efficiency and
precision. Sound quality enriches as instrumentalists
and vocalists find they have to try less hard. This newfound
freedom when playing translates into a relaxed and enlivened
presence when performing.
Those who suffer from chronic pain/repeatitive stress
Sufferers of chronic pain find their world diminishing.
Traditional therapies seek to manage pain often neglecting
its underlying source. Chronic pain may be caused by
inefficient movement patterns. Undue tension and muscular
holding add stress to our neck, shoulders, low back,
and hips. Learning about our own movement patterns allows
us to make new choices for optimal health and well-being.
Those who live with anxiety
"You translate everything, whether physical,
mental, or spiritual into muscular tension." F.M.

Many of us describe ourselves as feeling stressed out
or overwhelmed. We know we'd like to feel more relaxed
and at ease in our lives, but don't necessarily know
how too. It's possible to learn to identify some of
the physiological changes that accompany a stressful
stimulus. We can learn to notice our response to a situation,
pause, and let go of whatever tension might be accruing.
Taking the time to notice our body and breath greatly
affects our sense of emotional well-being.
